Event Type: Childrens Event
Explorer
Become a Castle Howard explorer and join in the adventure this summer. Our gardens will be brought to life with a range of interactive activities.

Every weekend, plus August Bank Holiday Monday, join woodland quests with Rusticus and reveal the stories of the intrepid adventurers who travelled the globe in search of plant treasure.

Take on the challenges of our have a go adventure activities this August bank holiday, Saturday 26 to Monday 28 August, with raft building, archery and a climbing wall in the gardens.
  • Become an archer for the day, take aim and watch your arrows soar through the air to hit their targets. Drop in sessions for adults and children (aged 5+), learn the basics and put your new skills to the test. Included in admission 10.30am to 4.30pm, 4 arrows each go.
  • Race to the top of the 6 metre climbing wall, find the fastest route up and see what you can spot from your vantage point before abseiling back down. Suitable for all the family (children aged 5+), included in admission. Drop in from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
  • Build your own vessel to launch on the Great Lake and set sail safely across the water. Use barrels, planks and ropes to create a raft with the rest of your team…are you brave enough to climb aboard and take to the water? This is a water based activity so you will get wet (a change of clothes is advisable). Included in admission, register on the day. Sessions run at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm & 3.30pm and last approximately 1 hour. Suitable for adults and children (aged 8+), build in teams of 6.
Take to the water when our family fun kayaking sessions return to the Great Lake from Saturday 19 to Monday 21 August. Join a half hour introductory session with a slalom race to finish! Find out more and book now (additional charge applies).

PLUS join in with daily craft activity, set off on a self-guided children’s trail to track down the lost animals with our brass-rubbing spotter and activity sheet and go wild in our gardens and parkland.

Take a ride on the Great Lake boat and identify the birds which spend their days on the water before having your own adventures on our lakeside playground.
