Countryside Stewardship

Environmental awareness is at the heart of the management of the Castle Howard Estate.

We have an extensive Countryside Stewardship scheme in place, which includes 2m grass margins around most fields, 6m grass margins beside watercourses and we have created other features including ponds and a fen area. All of these initiatives will improve wildlife habitats and encourage bio-diversity across the estate. 

Our farming operation is very conscious of the environment in which we operate and we have embarked on a number of initiatives to minimise the impact of our day-to-day operations on the wildlife and spectacular countryside in which we are fortunate to work.
