Coneysthorpe
Built by the Howard family, Coneysthorpe lies to the north of Castle Howard Great Lake. The village has remained unspoilt from the time it was built and consists of a group of predominantly residential properties set around an attractive village green. Many of Castle Howard's employees and retired staff currently live in this village.
Slingsby
On the northern edge of the estate, in the Vale of Pickering, Slingsby is prominent in the landscape because of the ruins of the 16th century castle (not open to the public) on the western side of the village. Facilities include a village store, pub, electrical shop, primary school and church.
Terrington
Lying on the western edge of the estate, this large, attractive village sits on Terrington Bank, overlooking the Vale of York. Facilities include a pub, village store, village hall, church and primary school.
Welburn
Welburn lies to the south of Castle Howard estate and properties within the village range from 18th and 19th century buildings, to more modern houses. Facilities include a primary school, pub, village store, church and garage.
