Visiting the House & Grounds

Generations of the Howard family have welcomed visitors to Castle Howard, Yorkshire's finest historic house, for over 300 years and today we extend this warm welcome to you.

Please note, the house currently has some scaffolding on it as we re-gild the dome. Find out more.

Whether you're looking for a fun family day out, a day exploring the great outdoors, a chance to marvel at breathtaking architecture and world renowned art collections or a unique shopping destination, Castle Howard is the perfect day out in Yorkshire.

Castle Howard is a magnificent 18th-century residence set within 1,000 acres of breathtaking landscape in the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just 15 miles north-east of York.

Castle Howard is also a thriving rural estate with many traditional enterprises such as farming and forestry.  The profits generated from all estate businesses contribute towards the on-going restoration and conservation of 200 listed buildings and monuments.
