Castle Howard is located just 15 miles north east of York, just off the A64 in the direction of Malton and Scarborough.

From the North: From the A1 take the A61 to Thirsk then the A170 to Helmsley. Before Helmsley turn right onto the B1257 and follow the brown signs.

From the South: Take the A1M to Junction 44 and follow the A64 east to York. Continue past York and eventually you will pick up the brown signs for Castle Howard.

Essential Coach Driver Information

To reach Castle Howard from the A64 you are required to negotiate a Gate House. Please note that height restrictions do apply and any vehicles over 3.43m H x 2.60m W should access Castle Howard via Malton and Coneysthorpe. Brown signs will direct you from Malton town centre via Castle Howard Drive.

Getting to Castle Howard by Public Transport

Direction - York to Castle Howard, Malton to Castle Howard

We are pleased to announce that Stephensons of Easingwold Ltd now run a scheduled bus service between York and Castle Howard, and Malton and Castle Howard.  The services run every day, except Sunday and Bank Holidays.

The following adult fares apply:

York to Castle Howard - £4.70 single, £8.00 return

Malton to Castle Howard - £2.95 single, £5.00 return

Children (5 to 16 yrs) are half adult fare rounded up to the nearest 10p.  Under 5 yrs go free.

English National Concessionary Passes are accepted on all services from 9.00 hrs.

Discounted Admission when you travel with Stephensons to Castle Howard

If you are taking one of Stephensons scheduled services from York or Malton to Castle Howard, you will be able to enjoy discounted admission to the House & Gardens (discount valid when the House is open, between 26 March - 30 October, and 26 November - 18 December 2011).   The following special rates to the House & Gardens apply upon the production of a valid ticket for Blue Zone services, on the day of travel only:

Adult £7.50  (normal admission £14.00)

Concession £7.00 (normal admission £12.00)

Children 5 to 16 yrs £4.50 (normal admission £7.50) Under 5 yrs free
