Today, above all, it is about the challenge of preserving the family home as a national treasure for family and visitors alike to enjoy.

Castle Howard's friendly and knowledgeable guides are on hand to share our stories with you as you tour the house at your own pace, exploring a treasure trove of inspiring architecture and interiors, as well as world-renowned collections.

Information boards highlight key stories and items in most rooms.

Children of all ages will enjoy exploring the house with Geoffrey the Lion’s illustrated trail and can discover the secrets of the House in our cabinet of curiosity.

All rooms except the High South and Chapel are accessible by wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility. A wheelchair lift is located at the house entrance. To find out more please read our access statement.
