Howard Day
Event Type: Event for all

Due to the glorious Yorkshire weather we have unfortunately had to move many of our Howard Day activities to the Grecian Hall. The historic vehicle and hot air balloon displays have now been cancelled due to adverse weather. Make sure you visit the Grecian Hall for our Capturing the Castle exhibition. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

On the eve of 'Yorkshire Day', 'Howard Day' will celebrate all things Castle Howard and recognise the date the House opened to the general public for the first time. The House was officially opened to the public in July 1952 by Mr George Howard. The opening, which was marked with bunting, games and tours of the House delivered by George Howard himself, heralded the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the House which has been lived in by successive generations of the Howard family for over 300 years.

On 31st July 2019, Howard Day will feature family fun activities, free admission for anyone with the name 'Howard', and the launch of a new initiative being penned as 'Capturing the Castle', a crowd sourced photo exhibition project.*

Enjoy garden fete games, dressing up, craft activities, Morris Dancing and much more! Hot air balloons will be displayed in front of the House. Please be advised that this is subject to weather conditions, we regret that balloons will not be inflated in adverse weather.

Also don't miss out on the launch of Christmas Tickets, along with out exciting Christmas announcements on the day!

*Free admission for anyone with the name 'Howard' includes those with Howard as their first name or surname. Activities included within a grounds admission ticket.
