Pyramid restoration
Work on restoring the small 'Aztec' pyramid in Ray Wood is underway, thanks to funds that have been reallocated from the avenue project which has come in under budget. Ebor Stone, the local firm who completed the restoration work on Hawksmoor’s Pyramid last year, are in the process of disassembling, stabilising, repairing and rebuilding the monument. The moss has been cleaned from each stone and the large outer blocks carefully removed exposing the inner core. The footing on which the pyramid stands is now being excavated and reformed ready for the pyramid to be reassembled. Missing stones will be replaced whilst those with small amounts of damage will have new sections inserted (as shown in the hand drawing). The work is expected to take 4 to 5 weeks.
