Exhibitions & Displays
Our exhibitions and displays reveal some of Castle Howard's rich and varied history. In 2016, we'll be showcasing archive material as part of national activity.
Happy and Glorious
Our collection of replica crown jewels in celebration of the Queen's 90th birthday. The collection includes the Sovereign's Orb, Coronation Ring and the Imperial State Crown.
From Waterloo to World War II, this award winning
exhibition explores the stories of Castle Howard in times of war, giving a glimpse into a hitherto unknown chapter of the family and estate.
Between 1815 and 1944, five Howards were killed in action and this exhibition chronicles the experiences which were shared by family, staff and tenants. A book written by our curator, Dr Christopher Ridgway, further explores the stories from WWI and is available to buy in our shops.
This exhibition tells the story of the fire of 1940 and the subsequent restoration, as well as the extraordinary transformation of the derelict rooms into film sets for both the 1981 and 2008 versions of Brideshead Revisited.
We regret that this exhibition is not accessible to visitors with limited mobility.
This small display chronicles the story of the Howard's patronage of the firm of Morris & Co and shows many examples of the designs that once covered the walls of Castle Howard. The 9th Earl & Countess of Carlisle enjoyed a long friendship with William Morris.
Admission to the exhibitions & displays is included in a house & grounds ticket.
