Cycling to Castle Howard

The network of bridleways and quiet lanes in the Howardian Hills makes it an ideal area for both on and off-road cycling.

Whilst cycling isn't allowed within the Grounds of Castle Howard, on the pedestrian paths and walkways (except on Triathlon Days), many cyclists enjoy the other routes around this area of outstanding natural beauty. We have bike racks for cyclists who wish to enjoy refreshments in the cafe or for those who would like to explore the House and Grounds.

Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) have produced ‘Bike Rides and Rambles in the Howardian Hills’ leaflet: an overview of the walking and cycling routes; and other helpful materials for exploring this wonderful area.

For keen cyclists who like a challenge, the Castle Howard Triathlon takes place in each July. Please sign up to our e-newsletter to keep up to date with news and events.
