Castle Howard is looking for a reliable, hands-on Art Handler/Caretaker to support the care, security, and maintenance of our extraordinary collection and historic estate. This unique role combines specialist art handling with essential caretaking duties, playing a key part in safeguarding our heritage and supporting the daily operations of this iconic home.

Art Handling and Collection Duties

• Handle, move and install the Castle Howard collection including paintings, sculpture, furniture and high-value decorative items in accordance with strict protocols.
• Oversee the security, packing and proper storage of these items in the collection that are not on display, and ensure the storage areas are clean and tidy, and the collection is adequately protected, with the correct environmental controls.
• Maintain inventories in storage locations to ensure easy accessibility of the collection.

Caretaking Duties

•  Responsibility for the security of the premises and the collection, including the maintenance and operation of security systems, fire alarms, chair lifts and other operational equipment.
• Ensuring the premises are clean, tidy, safe and functional for the family, visitors and staff.
• Minor repairs and maintenance including roof, gutter and drain checks.
• Liaising with curators to ensure best practices in conservation are followed.
• Collaborating with Building Services and other household teams.
• Some evening / nighttime security duties, where flexibility is essential
• Performing periodic checks, documenting findings and raising / resolving defects or concerns
