Castle Howard is a perfect for a group visit: the theatrical splendour of the House; the fine art and furniture collections and exhibitions; the fascinating stories of family members across the centuries.

Castle Howard offers a variety of benefits to groups, allowing you to tailor-make your visit for a perfect day.  Admission includes exploring the House at leisure on a free-flow tour with knowledgeable guides in every room. You are free to enjoy the House as many times as you like on the day of your visit.

House & Ground Group Rates 2018

The following rates apply for groups of 12 or more visiting the house and grounds during the main season, with a self-guided tour of the House. Please contact us for Christmas rates.

  • Adult: £15.50
  • Child (4 -16): £7.50
  • Under 4s: Free

 

The House

Early morning private tours with one of our guides are available upon request or your group can explore at leisure on a free-flow tour of the house with knowledgeable guides in every room. You are free to visit the house as many times as you like on the day of your visit.

The Grounds & Gardens

Free guided outdoor tours and talks run daily between March and October, or contact us to arrange a private garden tour tailored to your interests.

Discover the gardens year round, with particular highlights including spring daffodils, and rhododendrons, summer roses and autumn colour.

Talks & Tours can be tailored to reflect your group's particular interests, including:

Eating and Shopping

On arrival, Castle Howard’s Courtyard bustles with activity:  as well as the Ticket Office and Entrance there are varied refreshments and retail opportunities. 

Our range of cafes and restaurants serve menus inspired by fresh, local, seasonal produce, developed by our team of talented chefs, to create a range of mouth-watering dishes.

Pre-booked, pre-paid vouchers make it a simple and easy arrangement.

Shopping opportunities abound onsite with gifts for every taste and interest: the House Gift Shop carries exclusive ranges and exquisite gift choices from jewellery to tapestries, fine English glassware, books and stationery.  In the Courtyard, the Carriage House Gift Shop, Farm Shop and adjacent Garden Centre cover all gift options from homeware to foodie indulgences to pet owners’ delights.

11:35 Explore the Stable Courtyard area including the Carriage House Gift Shop and Stable Courtyard Cafe

12:00 Lunch in the Courtyard Cafe or Fitzroy Restaurant

13:00 Enjoy and explore the House

14:30 Take a stroll around the Walled Garden

15:30 Stop for refreshments in the Fitzroy Restaurant or shop in the House Gift Shop. Alternatively, walk down to the Boathouse and Great Lake or see the Temple of the Four Winds

Christmas 2018 at Castle Howard

Christmas at Castle Howard is a spectacle like no other.

New for 2018 Christmas opening will run from 17th November until 31st December.

Enjoy a truly magical day out as Castle Howard is transformed for the festive season. Experience the magnificent decorations as you journey through the House’s grand state rooms. Open fires, candlelight and live music evoke all that we love about this special time of year, with the iconic 25 foot traditional Christmas tree adorned with over 3000 baubles providing a breath-taking highlight in the Great Hall.

Inspirational design team Charlotte Lloyd Webber and Bretta Gereke have worked with the theme ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ to produce a stunning array of flamboyant displays and installations to surprise and delight visitors of all ages, including a fun indoor Children’s trail.

It is easy to spend a full day here as you soak up the jovial atmosphere, enjoy an array of indulgent winter warmers across our catering outlets and complete your Christmas shopping in our Gift Shops, Christmas Market, Farm Shop and Garden Centre. And don’t miss the opportunity to meet the big man himself as Father Christmas will be making some very special visits.

Access For All

The Kelly Car land transport runs between the Courtyard TicketOffice and House, with gravelled and ramped garden paths for easy access. In the House a wheelchair lift for manual wheelchairs runs to the main floor with only the Chapel and High South inaccessible to those with limited mobility. Wheelchairs are available to loan.

Car Clubs Welcome

Treat your car club to a grand day out out with a dedicated area of the car park and plentiful picnic spots, for a helping hand we'll provide a parking steward. Must be pre-booked, charges apply - subject to availability.
