Opening Times and Prices

The Gardens and Skelf Island Adventure Playground are open daily, from 10am (9am for Friends of Castle Howard) with last admission at 4pm. Pre-booking is essential. Please note that the Kelly Car land train and Boat 'The Dame' will not be operating.

Our team will be managing the capacity of the adventure playground area at busy times. This may mean that you will be asked to queue or limit the time you spend on the playground subject to demand. We may also ask us to help with capacity further by limiting the number of adults accompanying children into the playground area. We ask that you work with us to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience can be had by all visitors, and thank you for your ongoing cooperation.

The Coffee Shop is open daily 9am - 5pm and the Boathouse Café is open from 10am - 3pm (Mon-Fri) and from 10am - 4pm on weekends, both offering a grab-and-go takeaway offer.

The Castle Howard Farm Shop and Garden Centre are open daily from 10am - 5pm with social distancing measures in place. Both the Farm Shop and Garden Centre continue to offer a local delivery service too.

Please note: Our outlets are currently all operating on a 'cashless' basis as part of our Coronavirus Safety Policy. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

The main toilets in the Courtyard are open, including the accessible toilet, and the baby changing facility. You will see additional hand wash and hand sanitiser stations around the site which we encourage you to use.

The House remains closed until further notice.

We feel we need to act responsibly, and we have a duty of care to ensure the safety of our staff, visitors and local community in Ryedale at this critical time in trying to control the virus, we therefore thank you for patience whilst we implement our gradual reopening plan.

Thank you for your continued support at this challenging time.

Please pre-book an arrival slot below

We have moved to an entirely online booking function so that we can manage the capacity of visitors coming through the Courtyard and therefore maintain social distancing.

Book an arrival slot and then enjoy the Gardens for the rest of the day. The Gardens close at 5pm.

If you happen to be running late or early, your booking will still be valid so there is no need to re-book.

You will receive a 6 digit booking reference at the end of the booking process, this is all you need when you arrive at the Ticket Office.

Test & Trace

Following a change to Government guidelines on 12th April 2021, we will be asked to record the information of all visitors over the age of 16 which will be kept for a period of 21 days. We ask that visitors download the NHS Test & Trace app prior to arriving so you can scan the QR code upon entry. Details can also be taken manually on site if you don't have access to this service.
