First Introduction to the Proms at Castle Howard for Accessible Arts & Media
Latest From: Event

Members of Accessible Arts & Media (AAM) joined  Nicholas Howard at Castle Howard yesterday, for a tour of the site of this year’s Proms at Castle Howard, which takes place on Saturday 19 August, for which AA&M are Castle Howard’s charity partner.

The Proms at Castle Howard is always a very special, memorable evening: the hugely popular outdoor picnic classical concert is set against the glorious lakeside backdrop of one of England’s finest historic houses; opening with a Spitfire flypast, and closing with a spectacular firework finale. Great music, stunning setting: a wonderful evening for all the family.

Now in its 27th year, it is one of the largest UK Proms concerts outside Hyde Park, and is certainly the prettiest! This year Castle Howard promises to be Yorkshire’s biggest and grandest Proms, with renowned Yorkshire soprano Lesley Garrett joining over 120 performers on stage, including guest soloist Geraint Dodd, a 70 piece choir, and the London Gala Orchestra, for a programme including Handel’s Zadok the Priest, Bizet’s Habanera, Verdi’s Grand March (Aida) and Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King.

Members of AAM* will be onsite to enjoy the concert, and to share with the audience their inspirational and uplifting joy of music – raising awareness and support for what they do, and the immense pleasure it brings to all who encounter it, as well as for themselves.

Castle Howard Proms on Saturday 18 August is part of a weekend of open air concerts.

UB40, supported by ASWAD, are performing on Sunday 19 August.
Summer music at its best will echo across classic landscape when UB40, Britain’s biggest reggae band, bring their infectious feel-good Jamaican inspired groove to Castle Howard, featuring their greatest hits through to their latest album A Real Labour of Love. ASWAD and Loose Ends complete the line-up, for a glorious summer evening of reggae music, in the most relaxed environment, and most spectacular setting.
