The International Sheep Dog Society World Trials: Cancelled
Event Type: Event for all

Unfortunately the World Sheepdog Trials have now been cancelled due to COVID-19. More information coming soon.

In 1873 the first recorded sheep dog trials were held in Bala, North Wales, but it was not until some 33 years later that The International Sheep Dog Society was formed, following a meeting of English and Scottish sheep-men in 1906. The International Sheep Dog Society was formed with the intention of stimulating interest in the shepherd, the shepherd's calling and to secure the better management of stock by improving the breeding and training of the Border Collie. This is still the objective today and the Border Collie is now generally regarded to be the best herding dog in the world.

National Sheep Dog Trials are held annually each summer in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The International Trial is held annually and the World Trial every three years. We are delighted to be hosting the World Sheepdog Trials in September 2020 at Castle Howard.
