The Frank Jenkins Memorial Trophy is a national award which recognises the best gamekeeping student or apprentice of the academic year. The trophy commemorates the late Frank Jenkins, a gamekeeper with 63 years' experience in the field.
Matthew first became interested in gamekeeping from an early age when he helped his uncle, Clive Harrison on the Nunnington estate. Clive went on to become Under Keeper on the Castle Howard estate and after the retirement of Wyne Bennett took over as Head Keeper.
Following in his uncle’s footsteps Matthew became Castle Howard’s Under Keeper whilst continuing his studies at Bishop Burton college. Clive said: 'Matthew fully deserves this award, his dedication to gamekeeping from a young age and his obvious skill make him a credit to the estate and his profession.’
Matthew completes his two year, level three diploma on wildlife and conservation focusing on game in July, during which month he will also travel to the CLA Game Fair at Blenheim Palace to collect his award.
Congratulations to Matthew on a great achievement.
