Meet the artist behind the Moth exhibition, Sarah Gillespie
Event Type: Event for all

Join us for an interesting and insightful talk from artist Sarah Gillespie.

"A beautiful and strange otherness”

Sarah has had a successful career as a ‘landscape artist’ and this evening she will speak briefly about her early training as a painter in Paris before going on to discuss how moths came to dominate her practice and why she turned to the centuries-old method of mezzotint engraving to portray them. She will talk about what it means to really care about and ‘attend’ to the world around us, the vital role drawing plays in that attention and ask if art, and poetry can address the grief and sense of loss that she believes comes form a lack of daily encounter with the beautiful and strange otherness of the more-than-human world.

This event will take place on Tuesday 22nd June at 6.30pm in the Grecian Hall at Castle Howard. Tickets are £10 per person, including tea/coffee.
